One-Child Policy, How do you think about it？

As you known, One-Child Policy is a special policy to prevent the growing of population in China. As a Chinese, I would like to share something about the affection of the One-Child policy in China, and also, I would like to know your thinking about the One-Child Policy. My hub will start with the original of One-Child Policy.

The first theory of “birth control” was original in US. In 1912, a woman named Sanger visited an unemployed worker, and find out the worker’s wife die of abortion because of poverty. Sanger then considered that the children can be a burden to most of the poor family. She then proposed the “birth control” theory. In China, it is widely recognized 1970 as the beginning of One-Child Police though the One-Child Police is encouraged in some part of China in the mid-60. And in 1978, the “birth control” became a basic national policy.

China is still the country with the largest population in the world. The population density of east China is much more than west China. Some cities in the east such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou own more than 10 million peoples.

It is absolutely true that the large population is a big burden of China. More people to share limit resource can lead to poverty. As the population became larger and larger, more food and jobs need to be supplied to the people. Which also lead to the price of house and other things become more expensive, take the price of house as an example, it rise more than 80% during the least few years, for most of the people who earn only 3 to 4 thousand RMB a month, a house which requires 600 thousand RMB will take a normal person to pay for it for more than 30 years. A novel named Dwelling is very famous in China, which reflects the pressure for people to buy a house in China. What’s worse, for some people it is hard to find a job because of the competition of the society. So it is necessary for China to implement the One-Child police to prevent the growing of the population. And it would be worse if the One-Child police do not implement in 1970.

In theory, after the One-Child policy implement, the people should be less. However, the population of China in 2010 reaches a new height though it is 40 years after 1970 when the One-Child policy is implemented. Yet, One-Child Police is succeeded in preventing the growing of the population. Research shows that the population of China can be rise up to 1800 million in 2010 if the police do not implement. The graph below shows that although the population of China still increased in the recent years. And it is clearly that after the year 2000, the growth speed become more slowly. But, in fact, the One-Child police do not implement completely. Especially in some countryside of China, there is a tradition that boy is better than girl and only boys can inherit the family, so some families gave birth to a lot of children until they have a boy. On the other hand, there are much ethnic minorities in China, and the One-Child Policy seems not having an effect on them..

Although the One-Child Policy has a good contribution to prevent the growing of the population there are problems brought in by the One-Child Policy. From which, the aging population problem is the biggest one being concerned by the people. The percentage of young people in China become less and less as the young people in 1970 grow old. The welfare of the old people can be a challenging in China when there are fewer young people to support much more old people. And the lack of young people will surely cause other problem. Lay aside the aging population problem, every family owns only one child which makes the child become too important for the family, and some family may always doting their child, which is also bad for a child to grow up. So, firstly the great contribution of One-Child police should be recognized. Secondly, we should also be aware of that the One-Child police brought lots of bad effects. Since it is a good way to solve the population problem, but some actions should also be taken to prevent the bad effects it brings.

To most of you, One-Child policy is famous, however, do you know there is another important way to control the population in China which we call "Marry and procreate at a mature age". The "Marry and procreate at a mature age", in fact, is to encourage the Chinese people to get married and procreate at an older age than normal. When compared to the One-Child policy "Marry and procreate at a mature age" has its own feature, I have another hub "Marry and procreate at a mature age, how do you think about it?" to describe it in depth, if you are interested in it, you can take a look at it.

As a Chinese, I know the population is large burden for our country, which made a very bad effect on the development, educational supply, and medical supply of my country. So I support the One-Child Police. I have ever talked with some people in different countries through the Internet, and some of them seem quite interested about the One-Child Police in China, so I share this hub, however, English is not my mother language, and most of the data and graph in the hub is searched from the Internet, so I can not guarantee the correctness of my hub.
